Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NALC will be hosting our first ever Virtual Mission Convocation. Join us virtually to hear from Bishop Dan Selbo on the 2020 Vision, participate in elections and voting, and hear updates from across the NALC.
Friday, August 7, 6-9 p.m. ET
Saturday, August 8, 2-6 p.m. ET
Cost: $25 (voting delegates), $0 (visitors)
It is easier than ever to attend the NALC Mission Convocation. With no need to travel, and minimal registration costs, we encourage all pastors and delegates to attend. Invite members of your congregation to join in as well! We’re hoping to have more participants than ever before.
We encourage all attendees to register. Registration will close on Monday, August 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
Leading up to the Mission Convocation, NALC leaders have hosted virtual discussion forums. These forums were an opportunity for delegates to ask questions prior to the Mission Convocation. The forums were on the following topics: Proposed Rules of Procedure & Agenda, Report of the Treasurer & Proposed 2021 Budget and Proposed Constitutional Amendments.
The Mission Convocation will be live through GoToWebinar. To participate, you will need a computer or tablet with an internet connection and microphone (in order to participate in discussion). You will not need access to a webcam.
Updates from across the NALC are available for you to view prior to the Mission Convocation.
Joining the Webinar
Click on the button in the email you received from NALC Communications that reads “Join the [Friday or Saturday] session.” It will open a page that requests your name and email address. Then it may ask you to download “GoToOpener.” Allow your device to download the app. After downloading the app, you will automatically enter the webinar.
If you ever need to log out of the webinar, you can rejoin by clicking on the “Join the [Friday or Saturday] session” button in your email.
Voting
In order to participate in voting, delegates will need their Delegate Voting ID and access to a web browser. You can find your Delegate Voting ID in the email you received from NALC Communications on Thursday, August 6.
If you have a technical issue while voting, call 855-255-NALC and one of our voting technicians will assist you.
Discussion
During the mission convocation we will be following Robert’s Rules of Order. The following are instructions for how to participate in discussion through the virtual platform:
To make a motion delegates will type in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to make a motion.” Those requesting to speak will be recognized by the Bishop in the order received. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation.
To speak for or against a motion delegates will type in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to speak (for or against) the motion.” Those requesting to speak will be recognized by the Bishop in the order received, alternating those speaking for and against. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation.
In order to second a motion, a delegate will type into the question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to second the motion made by (name of delegate making motion).”
During the live event, to make a point of personal privilege delegates will type in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to make a point of personal privilege.” Those requesting to make a point of personal privilege will be recognized by the Bishop in the order received, according to Robert’s Rules of Order. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation.
To make a point of order delegates will type in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to make a point of order.” Once the current speaker has concluded, the delegate wishing to make a point of order will be recognized. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation.
To call the question delegates will type in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to call the question.” The delegate wishing to call the question will be recognized in the order received. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation. (Note: Please note the difference between an on-site and online convocation: calling the question on-site is meant to speed things along by calling for a vote to end discussion and moving to an immediate vote should the vote to end discussion pass. It takes a quick voice vote. Online, that “quick voice vote” turns into a fairly lengthy voting process, so please be aware of the potential that calling the question may add, rather than subtract, time.)
Delegates may ask a question of the Chair by typing in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation, “Question for the Chair” and their question. The Bishop will read their question to the Convocation and respond as appropriate.
If a delegate or visitor has a personal question, they can type their question into the webinar question panel and they will receive a typed response from an NALC staff member.
Following the Report of the Treasurer and Presentation of Proposed 2021 Budget, delegates may ask a question of the treasurer by typing in the webinar question panel the following: their name, congregation and “I would like to speak to the treasurer.” Those requesting to speak to the treasurer will be recognized in the order received. The Bishop will announce the speaker’s name and congregation. The speaker will then be unmuted in order to address the Convocation.
